Upper respiratory infections such as flu and colds often involve inflammation and infection of the sinuses. The symptoms include severe headaches, dizziness, earaches and toothaches, facial pain, pressure in your head, loss of smell, fever, mucous discharge, and severe headaches.
Sinus infection
Even if your sinuses seem clear, there may be signs of sinus infection deep within your sinus cavities. This residual infection can lead to chronic inflammation and a steady flow of free radicals throughout your body for a long time. This can lead to many chronic degenerative conditions.
The gentle, but powerful, action of therapeutic essential oils can be very effective in treating chronic sinus conditions that have not responded to other treatments, such as antibiotics.
Home remedies
These home remedies can be tried with the help of your doctor. Steam inhalations with a few drops of Eucalyptus Radix, Tea Tree, Lavender or Lemon, or Deliverance, can be used to prevent upper respiratory infections from spreading to the sinuses. If you feel any discomfort, run your cold-air diffuser in steamy rooms (during the shower) at least once a day.
A drop of essential oil can be added to your humidifier. It disinfects the water and helps to disinfect your lungs. Inhale a few drops of the oil into boiling water. Cover your head with a towel and let it cool down. Continue adding more drops until the aroma stops. Continue this for approximately 10 minutes. Throughout the stages of your cold continue to irrigate your sinuses using mild saline solution with a trace of Tea Tree oil. Put a pinch of salt in a bowl.
Try this!
Add one drop of Tea Tree oil to the bowl. You should only get a trace of Tea Tree in your solution. Take about a fourth cup of warm water, and then sniff the solution up with each nostril. To do the same, you can use a Neti Pot. Simply add a small amount of Tea Tree to the solution. It will do wonders for your sinuses.
You can try to put a drop of oil in a tissue and breathe through it if your sinuses are painful. You can also put a small amount of one of these oils between your palms. Breathe deeply by placing your hands on your nose and mouth. Apply a few drops of Frankincense or Peppermint oil to each temple to relieve pain from sinus headaches. Keep the oils out of your eyes.
Stuffy nose
Mix a teaspoon of honey with a drop of Peppermint oil to get relief from a stuffy nose. Then, hold the mixture in your back until the vapors rise from your throat. You can inhale 20 drops of any of the essential oils listed below while you sleep. You can increase the amount you drink each day with a drop oil until you feel back to normal. Try Basil, Peppermint and Lemon.
Avoid foods that produce mucous, such as dairy, processed foods, white flour, and sweeteners. If your diet is healthy, you won’t be able to permanently cure chronic sinus problems. Even the most effective essential oils can’t overcome high-sugar, empty starch and processed foods. Continue your best remedies for 10 more days after your symptoms have resolved. This will ensure that your cleansing is complete and deep. You should not stop these behaviors too soon. Inflammation and infection can return or spread to other parts of the body, causing more severe damage.
