Do Laser Treatments For Acne Work?

Acne, as with other diseases, can be controlled and treated but you will need to know the ideal remedy that would work for you. Currently, you’ll discover several remedies for acne in which all are of different character. Amongst the most popular ones is treatment using laser beams. Let’s see how successful these are and if there are any negative consequences.

    Laser Treatment

Laser beams pass through the surface of the skin to deeper levels. Although the skin surface stays unharmed, laser beams can inflict damage to the sebaceous glands that produce sebum. This harm then contributes to decreased sebum production, which helps control acne. There are some additional laser treatments that target the P. acnes bacterium that’s responsible for acne development.

Besides controlling acne, laser treatments may also help out with removal of acne scars. In cases of severe acne, treating the patients using erbium glass laser could lead to up to 80 percent acne reduction in 6-12 months. This was confirmed in two different researches brought in during a semester from the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery. In one of those researches, 18 acne patients were selected who had different kinds of acne which range from comedones into pustules.

    Acne breakouts

These patients had acne both on the face and on the back. After 1 year of laser treatment, only around 20 percent of the initial acne lesions were stayed there. It has to be mentioned here that these people had previously tried other therapies like Accutane and prescription medication but didn’t find sufficient results. However, these other treatments were stopped at least six months prior to beginning laser treatment, so the other treatments did not affect experimental outcomes. Although doctors did not find any significant side effects aside from erythema and edema, the patients did report minor pain when laser beams were being used.

      How To Clear Skin?

However, this research didn’t note how many treatments would be perfect if laser treatment is used. The next study also utilized erbium glass laser on 15 patients who were at the middle or late stages of acne development. In this specific study, 80 percent of these lesions were removed after six months of therapy. Although the subjects mentioned they felt less oil in their skin, laboratory tests did not reveal any substantial reduction in sebum production within the body.

    Final note

These studies together with others have demonstrated the efficacy of laser therapy for treating acne even when other methods such as Accutane fail to heal. However, for optimum effectiveness and speedy cure, it’s sensible to use laser therapy together with some other proven organic treatments like vitamin B5. This would make certain you not only eliminate acne shortly but also control acne once you stop laser therapy.
