The Hamilton Cardinals are pleased to announce the signing Fernando Rodney, MLB legend for the 2025 Season. Fernando Rodney has a long and storied career in Major League Baseball.
He played for 11 teams including the Detroit Tigers, Tampa Bay Rays, Seattle Mariners, Washington Nationals. Rodney’s 327 career saved places him 18th all-time on the MLB saves leaderboard. His durability and consistency as a reliever have earned him a spot among the elite relievers.
Rodney has been a three-time All-Star, with his best season being in 2012, when he was with the Tampa Bay Rays. Rodney achieved a record for the franchise with 48 saves, and a remarkable 0.60 ERA in 74.2 innings. He was awarded the AL Comeback of the Year, and Delivery Man, that year. Rodney’s performance set a record at the time for the lowest ERA a reliever had in a single year with at least fifty innings pitched.
Rodney has shown throughout his career that he can thrive under high pressure situations, even in the postseason. In 10 playoff appearances, Rodney pitched with a 2.84 ERA. Rodney was an important member of the Washington Nationals’ bullpen during the historic 2019 World Series, and helped the team win its first championship ever. Rodney was also a member of Dominican Republic National Team in 2013, where he won the World Baseball Classic Championship.
Fernando Rodney continues to play the game he loves, having spent the past four years with teams such as the Toros de Tijuana, Leones de Yucatán, and Diablos Rojos del México in the Mexican League. This summer, he showed his talent by appearing for Samanes de Aragua and Mineros de Boao in Venezuela’s Dominican Professional League.
Fernando Rodney, a seasoned reliever, is known for his “bow-and arrow” celebration of a successful save. He is also known for his pinpoint accuracy and devastating changeup. This signature move has become a fan favorite ritual, as it represents another game that the veteran reliever has successfully closed out.
