To know why and how acupuncture came into being, you must appear back in the history of Chinese medicine which goes back 8000 years at time.
Why Was Acupuncture Invented?
Two main philosophical ideologies became the frame of this Chinese medicine, Taoism and Confucianism. Confucianism was contrary to the growth of anatomy and surgery since it was based upon that the whole body is sacred and must stay complete through life and after death. It did not permit any technical interventions on the human body for the purpose of cure. The response to this was acupuncture that dealt with the diseases on the basis of the ideology.
On the flip side, Tao means ‘way’ and Taoism was based upon the doctrine of harmony between man, his inside and outside world. This ideology gave rise to two major phenomena; Yin and Yan that formed the origins of Chinese medicine.
Yin and Yang
Balance involving Yin and Yang are necessary to keep stability of the human body in Chinese medicine. Acupuncture is based on this theory and the needles are inserted at particular points to correct the imbalance and disharmony.
Yin and Yang are two opposite elements of the material world. Like night and day, they are independent of one another, yet two important ends of this spectrum. Existence of one is the surety that the other end exists as well. Based with this concept originally sharp edged stones were used in Chinese medicine to drain abscesses.
Era of the treatment tendency was called The Old Stone Age which goes past 10,000 years ago. After this the stones were altered in sharp objects that were utilized to treat diseases. These objects were called ‘BIAN STONES’. This is the way with times alterations gradually gave rise to Acupuncture, or needle puncture.
With time many alterations are made in the area of Acupuncture. The therapy is currently practiced in many distinct ways. Therapy can also be based on application of heat by heating the needles and then adding themor applying heat to the inserted needle. In either way propagation of heat direct to the sense of warmth and an energetic increase just after the treatment or after a couple of sessions. Another method is propagation of electric current to the needles that isn’t painful or harmful.
Surprisingly acupuncture is also being practiced as a contemporary technique without using needles. Main purpose is to offer comfort either via needles or together. Acupressure is also being implemented and is rather popular being an effective part of massage treatments.
