I learned a lot! Although home remedies for skin hydration may not be the best, they are worth a try. You will try anything that you can to hydrate your skin when it is cracked and painfully dry. Petroleum jelly is what I use to treat my chapped skin and dry hands. Petroleum jelly (also known as mineral oil, petrolatum, liquid paraffin and paraffin wax) is a common ingredient in skin care products.

Let’s see…

It is a petroleum byproduct that coats skin to retain moisture. It can also clog pores and encourage acne. It strips the skin of its natural oils and causes dryness and chapping. You’ll notice your skin becoming dryer if you stop using it. Home remedies are not a permanent solution. The worst part is that many home remedies for skin hydration, such as petrolatum, make the problem worse over time. I don’t recommend using any petroleum products for skin care today. I now use the best skin hydrating products I have ever seen. I’ll provide more details later.

Home Remedies

First, let me say that I have a few home remedies that work for skin hydration. These are not ideal, but they can be very helpful if you have them in your home. Both are completely natural and vegetable-based.

  • Avocados yield a rich oil that has been valued for its healing and moisturizing properties for many years. Avocado oil is rich with vitamins A, D, E, lecithin and beta carotene. Avocado oil is great for skin hydration. It is rich in sterolins which have been shown that avocado oil can soften and moisturize the skin, as well as reduce age spots. A study in Israel found that avocado oil significantly increased collagen levels, which is one of the most important skin proteins that we lose as we age. This is a remarkable list of benefits that one oil can provide.
  • Macadamia oil is another option. Macadamia oil (also known as macadamia nuts oil, since it’s the source) penetrates damaged and replenishes lost oils that cause chapping and inflammation. One of the molecules in macadamia oil that is palmitoleic acid has been well-known for its skin benefits.

Conclusion

These oils are great moisturizers. Not quite. You can’t just make a skin care product from a bottle of cooking oil or mix it at home. As I have said, professional skin hydration products are the best. These two products are a good stopgap. These oils might be useful for cooking.
